FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Aug. 3, 2019
FLINT, Mich. – Every seat was filled Saturday afternoon in the rear venue space at Café Rhema in downtown Flint. Marcie Len Hunter hosted the Second Annual Purpose Party: Overcoming Obstacles & Living in Purpose on her birthday.
“People need encouragement,” explains Hunter. “Often times we’re hard on ourselves. When we have occupations that can be difficult, there are times when people can feel underappreciated. This is just a rejuvenation – just a reminder that God has need of us. That God sees us. That God watches us. That God loves us. That no matter how tough and hard things get, He can use that for His greater glory, by purpose.”
The event was free to attendees, who were asked to RSVP online. Hunter wanted to create an atmosphere where there is freedom to discuss issues in life away from the stigma that may exist in traditional religious formats. The program included faith-based speakers and mental health experts with words of experience, wisdom, and encouragement, including Shonta Price, Sonyita Clemons, Denise Reeves, and keynote speaker Dr. Thomasine Wortham, CEO of Grace Counseling Services. Wortham told the crowd that they are God’s idea and they should point their laser toward their purpose.
“It’s about finding a forward focus. That’s what a life of purpose needs along with a resolve to press beyond opposition, and a willingness to move beyond the comfort zone,” says Dr. Wortham. “Discomfort, risks, and a decision to change are also requirements for moving toward living a purpose-filled life. You must confront every barrier to the fulfillment of your purpose with faith and a reliance of God’s grace!”
The program continued with Evangelist Brenecia Browning leading the room in praise and worship. At the end of the event, attendees were surprised with a butterfly release to symbolize releasing one’s purpose by evolving in life and pushing forward to fulfillment.
“It’s about living ON purpose, living IN purpose and living FOR a purpose,” says Hunter. “Birthdays are more than turning another year older, but it’s about reflecting on fulfilling, or completing, your life’s purpose. We all have a purpose that we are supposed to fulfill while we’re on this earth. We want to help people understand they have the tools to make an impact, achieve their dreams or overcome obstacles that stand in their way.”
The Second Annual Purpose Party is made possible through sponsorships by Daily Brew, Help2 Organization and K. Style Beauty Salon. Proceeds from sponsorships will benefit an organization whose mission surrounds suicide prevention and awareness.
